WINDOW PERFORMANCE TESTING
Window performance testing can be a vital part of a building envelope performance evaluation. Water penetration testing is performed to isolate the window installation from the window unit to determine the overall performance of the assembly. If leaks are identified specific repairs can be implemented to either the unit or the installation.
Water penetration testing is performed with the use of a calibrated water delivery system and an interior air chamber that simulates wind driven rain, in general compliance of the guidelines established by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), the Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) and American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) that determine the window product and assemblies performance standards. These guidelines have aided in establishing the performance, weatherization and inspection requirements that have been recorded in RCW 64.55 and the Condo Act.
J2’s lab provides a controlled environment for product performance testing, witness testing (observations), calibration certifications, and research and development (R&D) of a proposed repair. R&D type testing, if successful, results in less costly repairs, versus a full replacement alternative. J2 has implemented several successful repair methods that have both saved our client's millions of dollars as well as changed the industry's view on the possibility of window repairs.
Our testing equipment was specifically designed to be completely mobile and we specialize in onsite or insitu window testing. Testing the unit and building components, as installed, can yield valuable data and assist with related repairs. Testing like this can also be used to test the product as it’s delivered to the site prior to installation. Our test data shows that over 20% of the windows delivered to the site, do not pass the test criteria before installation.
In addition to our lab space we also have a training center with state of the art conference room facilities. This can be used as a meeting space, educational training center, and product analysis space. Details or repair processes can be discussed, drawn up, and then tested in the adjacent lab.
